You can also use this type of system to dispense chemicals and fertilizers needed by your field. The biggest advantage to a sprinkler system is that it can cover large areas with limited effort on your part. If it’s automatic you won’t even need to open the valve or close it when the watering session is done. However, with automatic systems make sure to monitor rainfall levels so as not to overdo it.

Disadvantages of Sprinkler Irrigation :Sprinkler irrigation is convenient, but also expensive to install. It’s important to consider all aspects of this modern convenience, including any drawbacks before you invest. Disadvantages include: Wind can affect the efficiency of a sprinkler system. It can reduce the effectiveness of your yard irrigation system by blowing the water in an unintended direction, resulting in areas which receive too much or too little water. System monitoring is required to ensure optimal performance, and seasonal maintenance will need to be performed each spring and fall to prevent damage from freezing and water leakage. Sprinkler heads may become damaged, and system components can wear or malfunction over time.

Whenever use sprinkler irrigation keep every advantage and disadvantage in mind. No matter what irrigation method you choose, the whole idea is to get the right amount of water. Too little and your crop doesn’t have enough to survive the heat, too much and it will wash away precious top soil, erode root systems and waste water.
