Rice is a major food staple for most people of Asia, especially India. The rice production has to be increased to meet demand due to population growth One of the important things on increasing rice production is to minimize crop loss which is caused by weed competition because weeds do not only reduce the rice production but also have an adverse effect on rice grain quality. Weeds are undesirable and unfortunate plants which meddle with the use of land and water assets and in this manner unfavorably influence paddy yield. They can likewise be alluded as plants strange. Weeds are an essential factor in the administration of all land and water assets, however its impact is most noteworthy on paddy development. Weeds strengthen the bug and infection issue by filling in as exchange have Reduce the proficiency of gathering. Decrease the land esteem Problems of water tainting. Decrease the yield and nature of paddy by seeking supplements, water and daylight.

Like other crop paddy is also supected by many weeds. Weed infestation is regarded as one of the major causes of low crop yields throughout the world and can cause 50-60% reduction in grain yield under puddled conditions and 91% yield reduction in non-puddled conditions. When rice fields are not flooded continuously and plants are widely spaced as recommended weeds get a better chance to grow. In rice cultivation system, the longer presence of weeds in rice cropping paddy, the greater reduction of grain yield. It is reported that Echinochloa crusgalli is more competitive causing greater loss in growth and yield of rice as compared to other rice weeds.
