DESCRIPTION
A broad-spectrum fungicide belongs to alkylenebis (dithiocarbamate) which is very effective against diseases caused by Alternaria, Pestalotiopsis, Colletotrichum, Phytophthora etc., infecting many crops. It is used on variety of fruits, vegetables, cereals and pulses.
Mode of action
It is a foliar fungicide with protective action. It become fungitoxic when exposed to air. It is converted to an isothiocyanate, which inactivates the sulphahydral (SH) groups in enzymes of fungi which causes disturbance in fungal enzyme functioning.
Applications
Generally the sprays of Zineb should start before the appearance of disease or at disease initiation. Repeat the applications at 7-12 days interval depending on climatic conditions and disease severity. General application with foliar spray. It is advised that the user must read the label and leaflet attached to the container for details or follow local recommendations.

Environmental Toxicity
:
Ethylenethiourea is the major metabolite in plants. Ethylenethiurammonosulfide and presumably ethylenethiuram disulphide and sulfur are also formed. It is non toxic to slightly toxic for rats. Slightly irritating to skin and mucous membranes. At very high doses, ethylenethiourea a trace contaminant and breakdown product of zineb has caused thyroid effects, tumour etc. It is toxic for fishes. But it is not toxic to bees.
